When you need to migrate a large heap of data or try to organize your files, you need to know exactly what files you have. For this, you can use Filename Lister, which shows you all the files and folders you have on your hard drive or in a specific location. Just point it to a drive or folder and it will list everything you have there, after which you can save the results for future reference.

Downloading and installing Filename Lister is a quick and simple process. You don't have to make any complicated settings, and there are no special requirements you have to meet. The application works on all modern Windows systems, and it supports both 32 and 64-bit versions.

Listing the files and folders you have in a certain location is quite easy. Selecting a path, on the application's compact user interface, and clicking a button is sufficient to start the operation. Additionally, you can set Filename Lister to limit itself to files, folders or to display both, with or without sub-folder and their contents.

Besides selecting a location and choosing what to list, you can also set up filters, to force the application to display only files with specific formats. Furthermore, Filename Lister can be set to include file sizes and to show icons. Though they make the listing process a bit slower, these settings will make the files easier to identify.

Once you have your list of files and folders, you can decide to export it, either in CSV format or as a plain text file. This can be quite useful in many situations. For example, you may want to see if any contents have been added or removed over time. Another example is when you'd need to manually mod a video game. A list of the original files and folders structure will help you restore everything to normal if you decide to remove those mods.

Whether you want to migrate all your files or organize them more efficiently, Filename Lister will give you a huge headstart.

Pros

You can list everything in a drive or a folder in just a few seconds. The software lets you set up filters and make other fine tweaks. It is also possible to export the generated lists.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to address.
